Big Five Wildlife

Jungle & Coast Honduras Eco-Adventure

Photography Course Summary

Don't tell anyone but Central America’s newest eco-destination, Honduras, has it all. Lost Mayan temples, majestic cloud forests, towering waterfalls, dazzling Caribbean beaches, deep jungle waterways, little-known tribal communities and an outstanding array of wildlife. A photographer's paradise.

There can surely be few better ways to learn or improve your photography than amongst such diverse scenery and colourful extremes. On this international photography course you’ll have the opportunity to photograph people, landscape, nature, travel and wildlife.

The Mayan culture lies at the heart of Central America and its influences can be seen in both art and architecture. From exploring Copan, probably the most important and certainly one of the most beautiful and artistically advanced of all the Mayan sites, you'll move on to the stark contrast of Celaque. Honduras’ highest mountain at 2,849 meters, with its magnificent high-plateau cloud forest, Celaque provides a different set of photographic challenges. This is truly primeval forest – towering trees covered with vines, ferns, and moss forming a dense canopy completely blocking out the sun, with very little undergrowth between the trees, and fantastic flora and fauna ideal for learning low light photography at its most challenging and rewarding.

Wildlife photography is also an option here with quetzals, trogons, toucans, hawks, or any of the other 150 bird species identified in the park, as well as rare mountain mammals such as jaguars, armadillos and tapir.

The journey down to the coast takes us through more beautiful scenery with opportunities to stop at remote waterfalls, before arriving at the Caribbean port of Tela. There we'll search out howler monkeys and hummingbirds, then kick back and relax in true Caribbean-style on the beach of Cocalito.

This coastal region also provides the opportunity to improve your people photography amongst the indigenous Garifunas, a coastal fishing community, originally African in origin. They traditionally live in thatched huts and their dances and food are something not to be missed. Colour, movement and expression are both a treat and a photographic delight.

A short drive down the coast is La Ceiba, jumping-off point for the virgin white beaches of Cayos Cochinos, a marine reserve consisting of a small archipelago of coral cays. Landscape and relaxation.

A photographic adventure that will stimulate the senses and inspire you to make better pictures.
